What a Great Day! Shodan Judo entered two teams in this years Helah Haslett Competition and every single person on both teams did fantastically well. I was so pleased that we were able to put together two teams together and more so that everyone who I spoke to about taking part was so keen to compete. No arm twisted needed for this one which I think shows an increase in confidence in entering competitions and rightly so based on performances in competitions over the past year or so. The Helah Haslett consists of teams of seven with a point earned for each win. The teams that make the final are those who have the most wins against the other teams. It was a close run thing and we made the final through the total points scored being more then the second Trowbridge team after the two teams were tied on the number of wins Vs other teams. For a second year running a Shodan team finished runners up to Trowbridge but the performances from the Shodan team in the final was absolutely fantastic. I could not have asked for any more from our players and final was also very close with us only losing by one point at 4 - 3. Trowbridge are a fantastic club with some great players and coaches and so to be so competitive and come so close is a fantastic result and shows just how we have developed as a club and just how competitive we have become. WELL DONE
Ben Cooke Jack Angel Ben Law Adam Heath Dan Marshall Eliza Jones Megan Luschover Lucy Buffham Dan Pankhurst Abigail Bufham Abigail was fantastic during the competition. I did randori with Abigail on the Thursday before the Comp and was hugely impressed with Abigail who raised her game big time and got the reward of winning 3 out of her 4 bouts. We want the same at each comp now Abi. Lucy Jones Lucy Jones is much less experienced then the people she was competing against but showed a great attitude and bravery to step up and compete and was not daunted in anyway. Lucy picked up a bad shoulder injury during the competition but at the first session back after the tournament she was back on the mat, even though she had to restrict what she took part in. Fantastic Attitude. Oliver Hulme Oliver faced some extremely difficult opponents in this competition but again give his all and in one bout was only a second away from getting a fantastic result. Great attitude, determination and bravery. Getting Better and Better. Shannia Harris Apart from being brilliant on the mat winning 3 out of 4 bouts but was also most certainly our number one cheer leader adding her vocal support to each and everyone of our players. Shannia also took on board our advice before her bout in the final and it worked a treat. Sometimes us coaches do know what we are on about!
